Students engaged in an Anti-bullying skit, learned the value of hard work and determination, and the importance of reading! Thank you Coach Sloth for visiting our school and for leaving our students with an important message that "Being a bully is NOT COOL!"

Iowa author, Coach Sloth, visited FES today. He ate lunch with the 3rd and 4th graders, and they talked him into going out for recess to play football with them. During his presentation, he shared how he gets ideas for his books and talked about the writing process. He read some of his books, and he had some students act out his book Hank the Bully. His MAGIC Book was a crowd favorite! More book order forms were sent home today, and they are due back tomorrow (Wednesday). Thank you to Coach Sloth for coming up here today...the kids loved it!

Durant 4th Grade students were excited to see their high school friends from Mrs. Price's Engineering Design Process class last Tuesday. The high school students were tasked with designing a paper airplane and writing instructions for their user. Who would be better to test this with? The 4th graders worked to follow the directions and build their paper airplane but they were not allowed to get help from their high school partners. After their airplanes were built, they got to fly them and then give their high school partners feedback about what improvements they could make to their instructions. Our 4th graders love any chance they can get to work with high school partners!

Mrs. Price's Physics and Engineering Design Machine teams lined the entrances last Friday for High-Five Friday at Durant. Not only did it excite the students for the day, but it also gave good luck to the team as they presented their machines at competition this past Monday.
