Today during Encore, Durant Elementary celebrated Super Cougars, birthdays, and students who won a library award for checking out the most books this year! They also talked about Citizenship and being a good teammate! Teachers and students competed in scooter and hula hoop races with their Cougar Dens and then wrapped up the assembly with pillar review!

FES had their Cougar Way Assembly yesterday. In the skit, the Wild Thing was on Trial to decide if we should adopt it into our Cougar Family or release it into the wild far away from Cougar Country. Lawyer Hammond called up witnesses to recap how we tried to teach the Wild Thing the Cougar Way, but it still can't be trusted. At the end, Mrs. Boltz read a poem about the Cougar Way, and the Wild Thing changed and revealed its Cougar Heart. We also celebrated April and July Birthdays as well as recognized Star Cougars. Mrs. Throckmorton gave out certificates to the students in each grade who checked out the most books from the library this year. You can watch the Trial of the Wild Thing at the following link: https://youtu.be/1TKFZKwV1rc?si=XfZgW-YxSbG5qkUi

Important Announcement: Schedule Change for Fine Arts and Awards Night

*Fine Arts Event: Begins at 1:00 PM (Gold Gym)

We believe this change will allow us to properly recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of our students, particularly our seniors, who have contributed immensely throughout their high school years.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. However, we are committed to ensuring our students receive the recognition they deserve for their outstanding achievements.
We hope to see you there as we come together to honor and celebrate our students' successes.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Big thanks to Mrs. Jones and the HS SWAT team for coming to Durant and spending the day with us! Durant students had so much fun being able to eat lunch, play at recess, participate in activities, and learn about being healthy with their high school role models!

FES students earned another Cougar Way Reward. Students decorated May Day boxes and wrote notes this morning. Then, students delivered their May Day boxes to houses in Fredericksburg. Students had fun knocking on the door and running away before they were caught! Thank you to Miss Henniges and Mr. Schmitz for driving the bus for us. FES students delivered 100 boxes to spread kindness in our community. Happy May Day!

Happy School Principals' Day to Miss Hoth from her minions! Her organizational skills are top-notch, and she loves her Google Calendar to keep her minions in order. She got her start in Texas, and they say things are BIGGER in Texas...but we hope she is remembering that everything is BETTER in Iowa! #fieldsofopportunities

The Cougar Relays track meet has been canceled.

MS track boys will be done at 4:40 today with the shuttle leaving at that time.

First grade took a field trip to Twin Ponds Nature Center today. We were able to hold a snake and see a kind of turtle that Matt Crayne said he has not seen at the park in over 5 years! We had a great time looking around the nature trails at different plants, including bedstraw, which we found out would stick to Miss Njus’ sweatshirt. It was a great day!

SFHS athletics, April 29-May 3

On Wednesday, April 24, 4th grade got to take an exciting trip to Osborne Conservation Center near Elkader. While they were there, students got to see and learn about the native animals of Iowa, including a black bear, wolf, and turtles. They also went on a walk around the old town of Osborne where they visited a general store, log cabin, and a schoolhouse. Hiking on the trails, skipping rocks, and doing a scavenger hunt were also on the top of the list of most fun activities they did that day.

This past Friday, the boys track team came to Durant to excite the students for another day of learning. This has been one of the most energetic and fun groups we have had yet and they certainly did a great job putting smiles on students and subs faces as the entered the building!

SFHS Student-Athletes of the Week: Saylor Kelly and Brennen Blake. Congratulations Saylor and Brennen!
