Spring is here, weather is improving, the daylight hours are getting longer, and the 2022-2023
school year is getting shorter. As many of you know, this school year has been met with multiple
and various challenges with Transportation for Sumner-Fredericksburg Community School
District. Through multiple and ongoing discussions with parents, transportation staff, and the
Sumner-Fredericksburg Board of Directors, changes to Transportation will be implemented prior
to the end of the 2022-2023 School Year to better serve our students and their families. Starting
Tuesday, Apr 11, 2023 we will be implementing new routes that affect students on the
following routes:
- Green Turtle (Virgil)
- Black Bear (Roger previously Gene)
- Red Rooster (Stan)
- Pink Swan (Melissa)
The updated route schedule will be posted on the School’s website, under the “Transportation”
tab. Please take the time to verify what time your child will be picked up for the rest of the year.
Due to time constraints placed on the routes through Iowa Administrative Code and to help
facilitate smooth transportation, it is imperative that parents make sure their child is ready to go,
waiting at the end of the driveway at your scheduled time. We are asking that they be ready five
minutes before and not to start and worry until five minutes after the scheduled time. Routes
times are calculated based on normal driving conditions pursuant to Iowa Administrative Code,
and the “five minutes before and five minutes after” allows for changes in road conditions. At
the March 13th School Board Meeting, it was approved that Sumner-Fredericksburg Drivers
will no longer wait for students to come out of the house. It was also approved that Drivers will
be held accountable to maintain the posted pickup times as published under normal conditions.
There will also be a slight change to the time that the Middle School Shuttles leave the
Sumner-Fredericksburg High School. All buses will leave between 7:20 and 7:25. Please have
your students to the high school by 7:20 to make sure that they do not miss the bus.
These changes are important to maintain compliance with the Iowa Department of Education and we appreciate your cooperation and patience. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me at myerst@sfcougars.k12.ia.us or by calling your student’s school to get in touch with me.
Thank you for your time and cooperation!
Trey Myers, Transportation Director
